What We Do
Sailing from historic New London, Connecticut on the coastal waters of southern New England, Mystic Whaler Cruises offers tall ship sailing adventures on a classic 110' schooner. A range of cruises include daily 3-hour excursions, sail training trips for school groups, environmental education, and overnight vacation cruises, with ports that feature Block Island, Shelter Island, Fishers Island and Martha's Vineyard.
What You Can Expect
Seasonal deckhands are responsible for ensuring passenger safety, sail setting and trim, reefing, line handling, dish washing, bed making and cleaning accommodations. The crew is a small, tight-knit community in which everyone must cooperate.
The days are long, the work is often repetitive, and for the right person, it can be a very rewarding experience. This is more than a job on a boat. It's a lifestyle. The tall ship world is a small universe. Many Mystic Whaler crew use their experience to gain work on other tall ships around the country and around the world.
The 2017 season runs from mid-April through early November, and a minimum two-month commitment is necessary. With a sailing schedule of seven days per week, crew are welcome to request any time off they wish; otherwise, at least one day off per week is scheduled.
No Sailing Experience Required
This is an entry-level position with no sailing experience required. All crew are also enrolled in a random drug-screening program. If you are physically fit, adaptable, sociable, personable, responsible, and have good personal hygiene, please apply.
